As part of its ongoing commitment to ensure that customers benefit from best value from Jamaica’s Bigger, Better Network, Digicel is vowing to fight to protect the interests of business customers in the face of C&W/LIME’s attempt to drive up Digicel’s corporate fixed wireless prices.
In what can only be described as a cynical act of desperation by a crumbling monopolist, C&W/LIME yesterday evening served notice on Digicel that it was seeking court orders that effectively look to force Digicel to increase the prices of its fixed wireless product for Digicel’s business customers.
Digicel has been offering fixed line voice services to business customers via its corporate WiMAX network for over two years and this has resulted in savings of up to 50% for business customers on their overall landline bills. To be clear, Digicel is a relatively new service provider in this area but has been growing its customer base steadily based on its value-driven, customer-oriented offering and its commitment to offering business customers real choice.
In terms of C&W/LIME’s latest claim, Digicel is confident and satisfied that the basis of the claim is a work of fantasy and entirely without merit. In fact, Digicel is offering its assurance to business customers that it will fight to protect their interests.
C&W/LIME’s overall performance in recent years has been severely impacted by real competition in the mobile market and it is now clutching at straws and trying to ring fence its dominant position in the Jamaica landline market.
“Digicel led the way in bringing competition to the mobile market in Jamaica. Competition means that customers have choice – as such we are determined to fight this nonsense to protect the interests of our business customers and to ensure that they benefit from real choice,” said Richard Fraser, Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs for Digicel Jamaica.
Mark Linehan, CEO of Digicel Jamaica, comments; “C&W/LIME should stop wasting our and the Court’s time and focus instead on its poorly served customer base and its next rebrand. Quite simply, having watched Digicel’s performance in the mobile arena over the last eight years, C&W/LIME is running scared now that the last remnants of its monopoly are under threat.
“Our innovative and value-driven solutions and pricing have seen businesses across Jamaica saving as much as 50% on their communications spend. We are very proud of our achievements and will continue to find ways of driving best value for our valued customers.”
