The St Catherine South police have taken a 62-year-old man into custody in connection with the seizure of an M16 rifle.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that about 7:30 p.m. on Friday, the police, acting on information, went to the home of the elderly man in Garveymeade, Portmore, St Catherine, where a search of the house was conducted.

Police said during the search, the M16 rifle, containing a magazine with more than 20 rounds, was found in a bedroom.

The elderly man, who police said is the owner of the premises, was taken into custody in connection with the seizure. His name is being withheld pending further investigations.

In the meantime, the police said they are searching for the elderly man's grandson, who they also want to question in connection with the gun find.
