The Meteorological Service has upgraded the Flash Flood Watch it issued on Friday morning to a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of all parishes until 5 o'clock on Saturday.

This means that flooding has occurred or will occur shortly and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if another warning is issued.

Duty Forecaster at the Met Office Romaine Robinson told RJR News two systems are influencing weather conditions.

“There is a trough that is across the western Caribbean and there is also an area of low pressure that has just developed towards the south west of the island, that area of low pressure is enhancing the trough and giving us these strong showers and thunderstorms which are persistent over the past 12 hours,”

“There are some areas of high pressure in the Gulf of Mexico as well as the eastern Caribbean and because of this the broad trough that is between them is blocked and is not moving. Because of this we expect the trough to be with us into the early part of next week,” Mr. Robinson said.

Meanwhile the heavy rain has resulted in flooding in several sections of Clarendon.

Reports reaching our news centre are that several sections of the York Town parish council division are now inundated with water.

People’s National Party Councillor for the division, Uphell Purcell said he has visited section of the division to assess the situation.

“The Denbigh Drive is flooded. On Decoy Road close to the Heart Academy there are two houses that are under water, on Bullard Road there are three houses that are under water, in Clifton also we have some houses that are flooded out,”

“We have two major gullies that are of main concern that we have asked the Minister of Works to deal with the Jacks Gully and the Flemming Gully. When we are in the rainy season they cause a lot of flooding,” Mr. Purcell said.
