Police provide more details on West Kingston operation Weapons3In the wake of mounting criticisms about the lack of information on the ongoing operation in West Kingston, members of the Police High Command and the Military stepped forward Friday to quell the uproar.

At a press conference led by Police Commissioner Owen Ellington and JDF Colonel Rockie Meade, it was disclosed that the police and military have recovered 22 weapons, thousands of rounds of ammunition and several explosive devices, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the conflict zone.

Among the weapons are: five AK47 rifles; one submachine gun; two pistols, one .357 magnum; one hand grenades, two ballistics helmets; eight ballistics vests; dynamite caps and a large assortment of ammunition.

Over 700 people were detained in the operation, and some processed and released.

Some of the dead were reportedly men dressed as women, while only two of the 73 dead were reported female.

It was disclosed that 400 of the detainees have no addresses in Tivoli Gardens.

Thirty soldiers and eight police were injured in the fight, while 14 police stations were shot up.

Two were burnt to the ground and three torched.
