Policeman accused of rape released on bail Police

A Police Constable accused of attempted rape was released on bond Friday.

Constable Vastney Harvey was offered $250,000 bail when he appeared before the Corporate Area Criminal Court.

He was charged for attempted rape of a civilian employee attached to the Constant Spring Police Station.

Investigators reported that on April 9, this year, the policeman and the female worker attended a wake for Constable Ainsworth Rushton, who died in March after he was mowed down by a motorist along Constant Spring Road.

In the wee hours of the morning the policeman offered to take the woman home.

However, during the journey, it is alleged that the cop began making sexual advances to the woman.

She objected and threatened to jump from the vehicle along Mannings Hill Road.

This reportedly led to a physical confrontation in which some items of the woman's clothing were torn.

The woman later reported the incident to a senior officer who then called in members of the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, CISOCA.

Constable Harvey who pleaded not guilty Friday is to return to court on September 9.
