The Road Safety Unit is reporting a 30% reduction in road fatalities since the start of the year.
Since January, 112 persons have been killed in traffic accidents, 49 less than the 161 fatalities recorded during the corresponding period last year.
There has also been a 26% decline in fatal crashes.
The figure amounted to 106 down from 142 in 2009.
Child fatalities also declined by 21% - 11 children died in motor vehicle accidents, compared to 14 last year.
The Road Safety Unit has also observed a reduction in other categories of fatalities.
Since the start of the year, there has been a 45% reduction in deaths among Private Motor Carriage (PMC) drivers, down from 33 to 18.
PMC passengers’ fatalities have also decreased by 37%, moving from 27 in 2009 to 17.
There has been a remarkable decrease in motorcyclist deaths, declining from 24 to 14.
On the flipside there was a 10% increase in pedestrians’ deaths.
There have been 48 such deaths compared to 43 in 2009.
