Police release photos of explosive devices found in Tivoli Weapons1The Police High Command has released photographs of makeshift explosive devices discovered by members of the security forces in sections of Tivoli Gardens.

The JDF’s Engineer Regiment has since disabled the explosives and secured them as evidence.

The photos show steel rebar, normally used to reinforce concrete blocks in houses which was cut into three or four inch pieces and put in small packages with explosives.

The police say when detonated, these crude bombs would spray shards of steel, causing serious injury to the security forces.

“Other forms of plastic explosive that were used with electronic trigger mechanisms and booby traps were strategically placed all around the community. This further reinforces the point that the gunmen were highly trained and well organized and may have received help from foreign sources,”

“Another improvised explosive device, this one has metal balls inside so designed that when it explodes those balls will go inside the body. Most of these cases these electronic triggers went into buildings and homes,” said Major Ricardo Blackwood of the JDF.

In all the police said they found seven unexploded improvised explosive devices.

Other photos showed LPG cylinders with explosives strapped to them, as well as plastic explosives attached to concealed detonating cord.

Cardboard boxes were found packed with explosive material with a detonating chord and placed in a rubber tyre.

Molotov cocktail which are normally filled with petrol, sand and other materials bombs were also found.

The police also released photos showing packages of explosives combined with pieces of steel which had been concealed in a bag which if triggered would have a devastating effect.

The security forces also photographed uncovered manholes, which they claim were intended as traps for the troops.
