Telecommunications provider LIME unveiled its new mobile television service yesterday evening, ahead of an anticipated pre-Christmas launch date.

LIME is partnering with local company DC Digital who are providing the streaming technology. LIME previously combined with the David Cassanova-led company to stream Boys and Girls Athletic Championships to BlackBerry customers via its 3G mobile network.

"It's fantastic technology, but we are going to make it very affordable, and we are convinced that customers will be really excited by the possibilities. It will truly be a service for living everyday," said LIME Jamaica Chairman Chris Dehring at the launch held at the Sportsmax Sports Zone in New Kingston.

LIME’s mobile TV offering will be available in Kingston and St Catherine. The company intends to expand the service islandwide by early 2011.

To use the service customers will need a digital mobile TV-enabled phone such as a Nokia 5330 or ZTE N290. The service will become available to BlackBerry and other smart phones "in the very near future", said LIME.

The package will include 15 premium TV and five radio channels, all digital, including local and international news, sports and entertainment channels. The TV channels will include Sportsmax and Fox Soccer Plus.
