Representational battle heating up in NE St. Elizabeth Kern-Spencer_0

There are signs that a battle is shaping up in the People's National Party (PNP) for the constituency of North East St. Elizabeth which is currently represented by Kern Spencer.

Twenty four hours after Mr. Spencer indicated that he would not vie for the seat if the corruption case against him is not completed when the next general election is called, reports have surfaced that at least three members of the PNP are eying the constituency.

In a statement on Monday, Raymond Adams, Secretary of the North East St. Elizabeth Constituency Committee, called on the Party to install Chairman of Region Five, Wentworth Skeffery, as the standard bearer.

It said this would be necessary in the event a snap election is called.

Mr. Adams urged the PNP to act swiftly and decisively to prevent any further division and vexation by Party workers.

Two other PNP members are reportedly interested in representing the constituency.

In his statement on the weekend indicating that he might not seek re-election, Mr. Spencer issued a warning to those he described as disruptive forces who are trying to impose themselves on the constituency.

While not revealing names, he warned them to recall the party's losses in North East St. Ann as well as South West and South East St. Elizabeth.
