Raheem Sterling, Jamaican youth football prodigy on verge of Liverpool history.

Sixteen-year-old Jamaican-born Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is on the verge of carving his name in the club's history books as he has been included in the club's squad for today's Europa League Round of 32 clash against Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic.

Sterling, who moved to the Liverpool youth set-up last year after a £300,000 switch from Queen's Park Rangers, has been rewarded for his sensational performance against Southend in the FA Youth Cup on Monday, when first team boss Kenny Dalglish watched from the stands as he scored five goals in a 9-0 hammering.

If he does go on the pitch today, Sterling who is 16 years and 72 days old, will become the youngest player to represent the history-rich club, a possibility that has his Mother Nadine beaming.

Nadine, speaking to Star Sports in an exclusive interview last evening, could hardly find words to capture her emotions as she witnesses her son's development into one of the brightest prospects in England.

a tremendous opportunity

"What can I say, as a mother this is a great feeling. Words really cannot explain how I feel about all of this. He is only 16 years old and this is a tremendous opportunity for him and shows that he has been doing well," said the strong-willed single mother, who has spoken to us in the past about her hope to see her son represent his native country.

Nadine, shared that Sterling, who has already represented England at the youth level, remains calm amidst the hype around his development and believes he will eventually command a regular first team spot if he continues to progress at this rate.

"He is a calm boy actually. He is determined to make it to the first team eventually and he does well at remaining focused. He never seems to be drawn into everything that goes on around him and that is a good thing," Nadine added.

Dalglish, who also invited a few other youth team players to his squad ahead of the trip to Prague, has also weighed in on the exciting winger.

"It is fantastic for Raheem to be involved," Dalglish was quoted as saying by skysports.com.

"It is a fantastic occasion for the youth team lads. We want to make sure they feel part and parcel of the club and they are there because they deserve to be."
