Public Defender secures independent pathologist Earl-witter3A leading international forensic pathologist has been retained by the Office of the Public Defender to observe the post mortems on persons who died in the West Kingston incursion three weeks ago.

The post mortems will begin Tuesday at the Spanish Town Hospital Morgue.

Public Defender Earl Witter says a member of the Royal College of Pathologists in Canada has arrived in the island to observe the proceedings.

“It has been possible to secure the services of a very distinguished forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Pollanen, a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Canada and the chief forensic pathologist at the Ontario Forensic Pathologist Services to observe these autopsies,” Mr. Witter said.

The autopsies which will be carried out by the Government Pathologist will be viewed by independent overseas observers, personnel from the Bureau of Special Investigations, the Office of the Public Defender, as well as representatives from Jamaicans for Justice.

And RJR News has been informed that the police will make an announcement Monday on the way forward in their investigation into the discovery of graves in Tivoli Gardens.

Assistant Commissioner Les Greene on Sunday night confirmed that international assistance has been sought in carrying out the probe.

He said a statement will be issued on future plans for the investigation.

Concern was raised last week after the body of man was found in a grave in an area of the community known as Rasta City.

An on the spot post mortem revealed that the man was shot several times.

Four nine millimetre casings and an AK47 calibre cartridge were taken from the grave.
