A senior executive at Caribbean Airlines' has given the assurance that the air carrier's acquisition of Air Jamaica is not in jeopardy.
Concern was raised late last week about the takeover agreement following reports out of Trinidad.
But Caribbean Airlines' CEO, Captain Ian Brunton, says there is no need for alarm.
There have been jitters in Jamaica since word came last week that a new Government in Trinidad was taking a second look at Caribbean Airlines acquisition of the Lovebird.
Finance Minister Winston Dookeran has appointed a three member appraisal committee to review the takeover.
It will affect plans for Air Jamaica to continue current operations under a contractual arrangement with Caribbean Airlines.
Former CEO of BWIA Conrad Aleong will head the committee but the CEO of Caribbean Airlines Captain Ian Brunton said there is nothing to worry about.
“I have no doubt that once the shareholders and Caribbean Airlines and Air Jamaica and the bond they have forged in the last six months will stay and we will continue to build,” Captain Brunton said.
Captain Brunton said the airline expected the probe given the takeover was part of a major agreement under the previous administration.
Captain Brunton added that there was a strong possibility that Caribbean Airlines might retain the Air Jamaica brand.
Captain Brunton said Caribbean Airlines will eventually review many of the original Air Jamaica routes.
He says Air Jamaica is a solid brand and has made an impression on the Diaspora and the world travel market.
