A detective sergeant from the St Catherine South police division, was taken into custody by his colleagues after he allegedly collected $100,000 to drop a murder case, THE STAR understands.

THE STAR learnt that members of the Anti-Corruption Branch held the sergeant about 5:15 p.m. yesterday at the Portmore Police Station in Greater Portmore.

The undercover sleuths who were on stand by, grabbed the detective after he reportedly went into a car and collected the money.

Information reaching THE STAR is that a man was taken into custody for murder. It is reported that a relative of the man was approached and money solicited as payment to have the man released without being charged.

A report was made to the Anti-Corruption Branch and a sting operation was set up at the station's parking lot, where the money would change hands.

The name of the policeman is being withheld.
