A man who reportedly tried to protect himself and his sister from her husband, who had allegedly promised to kill them both, was granted bail when he appeared in court to answer to a murder charge on Thursday.

Clayon Stevenson, 21, who is from Annotto Bay in St Mary, was granted $200,000 bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. He has been charged with the murder of his brother-in-law, Alvan Talbott.

The accused is scheduled to return to court on March 2, when the matter will be mentioned as the file is incomplete.

Allegations are that on January 15, about 4 p.m., Talbott called his wife and threaten to kill her and the accused.

It is alleged that the accused's sister had moved out of the matrimonial home in Castleton, St Mary, and was living with her mother at a St Andrew address.

Allegations are that Talbott, who had entered the house armed with a ratchet knife and a glass bottle, was trying to get to his wife when the accused blocked him. A tussle reportedly ensued where it is further alleged that Talbott used the knife to cut the accused.

The struggle allegedly continued as the accused tried to disarm Talbott.

It was later discovered that Talbott had received stab wounds.

Post mortem results later coincided with initial reports that Talbott's death was caused by multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.
