LIME, Jamaica’s only full service telecoms provider will be investing $620 million in the continued upgrading and expansion of its Internet network during the current fiscal year.

The major investment will fuel the expansion of the company’s internet footprint, allowing LIME to provide connectivity in areas that are currently without service. In addition, the allocation will also fund enhancements to LIME’s existing network which means current customers will enjoy faster speeds and experience improvements in the quality and reliability of their Internet service.

With increased speed and upgraded service LIME’s customers will be able to enjoy the numerous features and benefits of the Internet including access to entertainment, recreational and educational information and services. Customers will also be able to easily download and transfer large files including music, movies and high quality pictures; participate in gaming and other real-time activities and view online videos and live streaming uninterrupted.

The current $620 million allocation follows on the $500 million LIME spent improving its Internet infrastructure last year when the company carried out major upgrades on its network and began offering 8mb service packages to residential customers.

The 8Mb roll out covered numerous high density population areas including several communities in Kingston and St. Andrew, Portmore and Montego Bay.

Under the current network improvement drive, 8Mb service will be available in several more communities in the Corporate Area, St. James and St. Catherine and will soon be offered to customers in Mandeville.

Geoff Houston, LIME’s Managing Director for Jamaica and Cayman said, “In just over two years we have invested more than $1 billion in our Internet service in order to maintain our market leadership position by ensuring that we are able to offer customers a world class service.”

“LIME is, undoubtedly, the Internet provider that covers more communities across the island and we are continuing to expand so we can give more people internet access which has practically become a lifestyle necessity,” he added.
